Scale-stem Cyrtomidictyum is a kind of 'walking fern'. The rachises of its some fronds are prolonged and grow adventitious buds at the tip. When the buds grow bigger and bigger, the rachises droop to the ground and the buds root downwards and become young plants independently. Its Chinese name '鞭'葉 means 'whip' leaf because its prolonged rachises look like whips and that is the characteristics of Scale-stem Cyrtomidictyum.
